There are many people above the age of 55 who prefer to opt in for a home or a community that is close to their family and friends. But there are always those seniors who would rather enjoy an active lifestyle and engage in fishing, swimming, golfing or tennis and so choose to stay at such communities that offer these facilities. Many such people thus decided to move on to the sunshine states such as Florida because these were the places where you came across such communities even a few years back. However there has been a drastic change in this in the last few years and today, those who are above 55 will come across such communities almost everywhere in the US. And many of these over 55 retirement communities offer medical facilities and great amenities as well and this has made them a favorite really.
Some of the contemporary communities are coming up with state-of-the-art clubhouses with games and activities befitting their members. But many members are not satisfied with just this – they look for activities such as swimming, tennis, golfing and billiards and there are communities that offer them. There are some people however who are not too keen on the activities – they want to just sit back and relax, having spent an over-active life, and they love these places too because of the peace and the calm, the greenery and the manicured lawns. The relaxation and the activities these places offer attract not just the seniors but the younger people too who want to come and spend a few days here. And since these are gated communities, you can be sure about the security and the privacy of the members here. And this remains a top priority of course.
With improved medical care the average life expectancy has increased and so an estimated 85 million people would be more than 55 years of age by 2014, and that too just in the US. No wonder, the 55 plus retirement community developers are working round the clock to meet this ever increasing demand for housing from this sector. It is thus only natural that the market for 55+ retirement communities will keep on growing for many years to come.
The National Association of Home Builders sponsors the annual International Builders’ Show to help all those people searching for a place to stay and the communities as well to find these people – as many as 100,000 attend this annual event. This show features many events and programs which are mainly focused on the plus 50 housing projects. There are so many participants and visitors here that the International Builders’ Show has become an event of national importance now.
But when you are selecting such a community, you need to be careful because not every one will offer you the same things. So gather as much information as possible about these over over 55 retirement communities before making up your mind. What kind of community do you prefer – first decide this yourself.
