Gambling, like any sport or recreational activity, should be enjoyable and entertaining. But when players get out of control, they become addicted to it, and then it becomes a monetary roadblock. In extreme cases, it ruins social relationships, professions - basically, a person’s entire life.

If you enjoy horse racing or any other type of gambling, here are a few practical guidelines to help you maintain a safe distance from bankruptcy and gambling addiction:

Keep Your Expectations Low

Do not prep yourself up to win. Even if you’ve calculated your bet according to your new horse racing system or your dad’s horse racing tip, you can’t be too confident. Gambling is always risky. Keeping your hopes low will only keep future frustrations at bay. Setting a loss limit before you place your bets is also a smart move, while sticking to it is even smarter.

Don’t Borrow Money for Gambling

Borrowing money will wreck your finances, so Determine a manageable loss limit to keep you from doing this. Every gambler should understand that borrowing money from others in order to gamble is a warning sign that tells you that you’re going down the path to gambling addiction.

Don’t Take Gambling Too Seriously

If you’re not a jockey, a horse trainer, or a casino dealer, you have no business being at racetracks or at casinos everyday. Don’t skip work, classes, or any another significant events just so you can play. If you take gambling too seriously, it will end up running your entire life.

When you are at the tracks or at casinos, make sure you socialize with friends and other people around you. Who knows? You might just meet a potential business partner or a potential wife? After all, it’s all about chances, right? Just make it a point that you never argue about gambling with your new friends.

You must also set a maximum time limit, which will determine how long you can stay at a gambling event.

Don’t Gamble When You’re Stressed

True, for some people, gambling is a good method of relieving stress. But if you have the propensity to blow yourself, stay away from any type of gambling. You could end up with a greater problem than you probably already have.

Don’t Go After Your Losses

A mature gambler must know how to accept a loss. Chasing after your losses will probably cost you more, which might leave you in a stack of debt
