With the kids out of school, let’s take water safety precautions. If your children can’t swim, get swim lessons for children as soon as possible. Glendale’s 9 Aquatic Centers are offering swimming and lifeguarding lessons this summer. Keep an eye on small children at all times around pools; don’t let a phone call or doorbell distract you. Pool owners should have one adult should who can swim and has CPR training. Pools should be enclosed with vertical bar fence (kids can easily climb a chain link fence) with a self-locking, self-closing gate. Furniture shouldn’t be kept near the fence to prevent children using them to climb over the fence. Know how to use life-saving equipment kept by the pool. If a child goes missing, always check the pool first.
