Before I even began to think about waking up I heard a bang on my front door, not just a bang, loud bangs, over and over . I tried to roll over and ignore it, but it just got louder and louder. Then whomever it was started ringing the doorbell over and over. I couldn’t take it anymore. [spin] Confused, I jumped out of my bed, threw some clothes on and stumbled down the stairs to the front door .
Who might be at my door at this ungodly hour?
Well, it was everybody’s favorite person and best friend, the prince of Debt Collection himself come to my front door telling me I had to pay back this loan I borrowed to help pay for my mortgage right then and right now.
So I have more debt than I can handle . Am I the only one? Debt Collection’s a viable field of employment and someone does have to go around collecting payments, but is it necessary to be so rude about it due to the fact that you are in debt ? You may think that it is Debt harassment, but its still Harassment if there is someone screaming down your throat every chance they get it seems as if they are not just doing their job, they are letting out their own frustrations .
It looks as if I am a deadbeat that doesn’t pay his bills. It’s not like that. I took out thousands of dollars in debt for college and I am paying them back religiously every month. Paying them back puts a damper on my social life and it won’t be done any time soon, but I am doing it . I would love to pay off all of my debts . Nevertheless, I haven’t been able to do it right away but that does not give anyone the permission to treat me like I am scum .
I am a good person . I’m a not a loser and I’m not trying to hide anything, but that’s exactly how this debt collector is making me feel and I doubt I’m the only one. [spin] I can guarantee that everyone who is experience this type of Harassment is ready to become a criminal | I bet all kinds of people are sick and tired of this type of Harassment.
So I slammed the door in his face and went back upstairs to sleep until my alarm clock went off and I had to get up for work. Later on that evening, I turned on my computer and looked up fair debt collection and found out that my instincts were right. A while back, Congress passed the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, or FDCPA.
The FDCPA state that a Debt Collection can only call you at certain times, specifically not before 8 in the morning and not after 9 at night. They also have to identify themselves by name, which my visitor hadn’t. I also learned that he can’t contact me again unless I request that he do so and that, if in writing, I contacted him and the agency he works for saying I can’t pay the debt or that I don’t want them contacting me again then they can’t.
And a Debt Collection certainly can’t intimidate you or mistreat you in any way or use any type of profane language. This is part of the way everyone should be treated and the way one should handle professional matters, but, it seems that, many Debt Collection pay no attention to that and the FDCPAws that make it lawfully essential . The best thing one can do for oneself is educate themselves about the FDCPA and how they can fight against Debt Collection if they ever cross the line .
